On October 23, 2025, protesters arrived at Coast Guard Island to protest the deployment of Customs and Border Patrol agents in the Bay Area. The agents, deployed by the Trump administration with the intent of conducting an immigration “surge” in San Francisco, were met by anti-ICE and CBP community members, who blocked the road to vehicles entering the Coast Guard base. The protest turned violent when armed agents deployed non-lethal weapons, hitting pastor Jorge Bautista in the face with a pepper ball at close range.
